Itoudis: “Euroleague is losing its competitive side, sense of justice and activeness”

Itoudis on the situation in EuroLeague

CSKA head coach Dimitris Itoudis, on the eve of the Euroleague away match against Fenerbahce, said that due to the staffing problems that are happening in many clubs in connection with the coronavirus, the tournament is losing its competitive component and a sense of justice.

“Fenerbahce has a new coach, a new system, and to this day the rivals have not suffered a single defeat, having won both Euroleague matches and three meetings in the Turkish championship. We are preparing for the match very seriously, despite all the circumstances, we are going to Istanbul to fight. I really respect the Fenerbahce club, the Euroleague and all the people who work in it.

At the same time, I believe that the current situation is less related to the game. During the preparation, many obstacles stood in our path. The overall situation is getting worse and worse. Khimki lacks healthy players, Zenit did not go to the road at all. I don’t know yet how everything will turn out for them in the end …

ASVEL has many infections. We also have four cases and even more at CSKA-2. I can mention many more teams that have played with Barcelona and others, but I am just a coach. Believe me, the tournament is losing its competitive side, a sense of fairness and activeness.

At the same time, we prepare as much as possible, because we are waiting for the test results from the laboratory. And I’m not looking for excuses! We will go and fight – five or six or seven – no matter how many players are healthy. Because no one, except us and the players, will say who is important to the team and how much.”

These words by Itoudis were reported by the official CSKA website.
