The University of Iowa has reached an agreement to hire Ben McCollum as the new head coach of the men’s basketball team. McCollum just wrapped up a historic 31-4 season at Drake, leading the Bulldogs to their first NCAA Tournament win since 1971.
Prior to Drake, McCollum spent 15 seasons at Northwest Missouri State, where he built a Division II powerhouse, winning four national championships.
He replaces Fran McCaffrey, who was let go after 15 seasons at Iowa. The Hawkeyes haven’t advanced past the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament since 1999.
