According to Ben Fischer, the International Olympic Committee ‘Is trying to move things along parallel paths, continuing to take all the steps that would allow the Games to proceed’.
The alternative route would be to postpone Tokyo 2020 to the summer of 2021, a possibility that ‘Now is clearly in play’, according to the reporter’s sources.
The IOC yesterday said that they remain fully committed to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, and ‘with more than four months to go before the Games there is no need for any drastic decisions at this stage; and any speculation at this moment would be counter-productive’.
The IOC hasn’t said so officially, but a day’s worth of phone calls indicates to me a one-year delay to @Tokyo2020 now clearly in play, as I reported in last night’s SBJ Unpacks newsletter. (no paywall) https://t.co/QLZO9pAwEx
