Commenting on the buyout deal between the Memphis Grizzlies and Rajon Rondo, Espn’s Bobby Marks reveals that Memphis never asked the veteran playmaker to report to the team.
A clear signal on the intentions of the Front Office, among other things still struggling with 17 guaranteed contracts, 2 over the limit.
The ESPN reporter explains that the Grizzlies have called Jarrett Culver for medical visits, but not Juancho Hernangomez. The two players moved from Minnesota to Memphis in the trade that brought Pat Beverley to the Timberwolves.
Hernangomez still has a two-year contract for about 14.5 million total, but according to Keith Smith the second season will become guaranteed on June 30, 2022.
Memphis could therefore decide to release the Spanish forward, which would immediately become one of the best free agents available on the market.
Last year Hernangomez averaged 7.2 points and 3.9 rebounds in 52 games with Minnesota.
