Draymond Green was fined $50,000 by the NBA for ‘questioning the integrity of the referees’ with a comment deemed inappropriate during Game 3 of the Western semifinals between his Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The offending gesture occurred after Green had exited for six fouls with 4:38 to play. During a timeout, the cameras caught him uttering ‘five and a half’, a clear reference to the 5.5-point spread set by the bookmakers for the game. The final result, 102-97, exactly respected that spread.
Green has collected five technical fouls in these playoffs: an automatic one-game suspension would be triggered at the seventh. In his career, he has accumulated $992,000 in fines, of which $185,000 was for incidents against referees alone.
