AX Armani Exchange Milan owner and fashion industry icon Giorgio Armani issued an open letter to healthcare officials over the weekend to strengthen their resolve in the ongoing battle against the COVID-19 strain of the coronavirus. Armani, who had reportedly donated 1.25 million euros to hospitals and related causes in his native Italy earlier in March, spoke of his admiration for healthcare officials and even revealed that he had dreamed of a career in medicine when he was young. Italy has been among the hardest hit countries in the world by the virus with more than 50,000 confirmed cases.

“It is moving to see you engaged in your work with the difficulties and great efforts that the whole world now knows. And above all I see you cry. I believe this feeling is connected to my dreams to pursue a medical career when I was young and looking for my way. The Giorgio Armani organization is sensitive to this reality and is close to all of you: from the stretcher-bearer to the nurse, from general practitioners to all the specialists. I am personally close to you.”
