Federal Investigation Into Terry Rozier’s 2023 Game Betting Patterns

Federal Investigation Into Terry Rozier’s 2023 Game Betting Patterns

NBA confirms cooperation with authorities, but no charges against Rozier

Federal prosecutors are investigating unusual betting patterns surrounding a March 2023 game involving Terry Rozier, then with the Charlotte Hornets, as part of the same probe that led to Jontay Porter’s lifetime NBA ban. The Wall Street Journal first reported the case.

The NBA acknowledged it investigated the matter in 2023 and found no league violations, but the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York is now examining whether Rozier’s abrupt exit from that game—after playing just 9 minutes and 36 seconds—was linked to betting activity. Some sportsbooks reportedly removed Rozier’s prop bets hours before tipoff, leading to speculation among gamblers.

Rozier’s attorney expressed confidence that the government’s investigation will confirm his innocence. The Miami Heat, his current team, referred to the NBA’s statement without further comment.
