The FBI has issued a formal warning to sports leagues about organized theft groups targeting professional athletes’ homes. Between September and November 2024, at least nine athletes’ homes were burglarized, often while they were playing games or traveling.
According to a report obtained by ABC News, thieves target high-end goods such as designer handbags, jewelry, watches, and cash. Some incidents occurred while residents were home, prompting the FBI to advise avoiding direct confrontation with burglars.
Recent victims include stars like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Joe Burrow, and Luka Dončić. The thieves use public information and social media to track their targets’ routines, employing advanced techniques like Wi-Fi jammers and disabling security cameras.
The FBI recommends athletes enhance home security, avoid posting revealing details on social media, and keep an inventory of valuables to mitigate risks.
