Fabien Causeur, Olimpia Milano’s outside forward, also spoke about his farewell to Real Madrid during an interview in France.

‘It was a very difficult decision. Madrid was my favourite club, I had so many experiences there, not just the titles. My two sons were born in Madrid, I made very strong friendships with teammates and staff people. The day they told me they would not confirm me, my wife saw me cry for the first time. That says a lot about how much that club meant to me.’

‘It wasn’t my decision, it was Real’s choice. I always hoped to stay, but I also knew that with the departure of Llull and Rudy Fernández there could be a desire for a generational change. I think they wanted to rejuvenate the roster and I was included in that package of changes.’

‘I had always imagined ending my career in Madrid. It was my goal. Last summer was a blow to the heart, one of the biggest disappointments of my career. But at some point you have to accept reality, like when you are in love with someone who no longer wants to be with you. You have to move on, move on and find new stimuli. That’s what I’m trying to do in Milan.’

‘I have no resentment towards Real Madrid, on the contrary. I am grateful for everything I experienced there. I played almost 500 games in that shirt, I won 14 trophies. It was an incredible chapter in my life, but now I’m trying to write another one.’
