According to Eurohoops, the EuroLeague has initiated disciplinary procedures against Dimitris Giannakopoulos, owner of Panathinaikos, for his controversial social media behavior after his team’s losses in Games 2 and 4 versus Efes.
After Game 4, Giannakopoulos posted on Instagram: “You were mafia, you are mafia, you will stop being mafia,” tagging the EuroLeague’s official account. He also publicly invited Dejan Bodiroga and Daniel Hierrezuelo to attend Game 5.
This isn’t his first incident. Back in March, he was fined €15,000 for similar conduct. In December 2022, he was hit with an €80,000 fine and a three-game arena ban for offensive remarks.
The EuroLeague’s disciplinary board will now decide if further penalties will follow.
