Misko Raznatovic talked to Mozzartsport about the choice made by EuroLeague of adopting the salary cap.
“No, the fact that the two best players, i.e., the highest-paid players, are not included in the salary cap will absolutely not affect their salary increases. In conversations with almost all teams, absolutely no one has a plan for what to do next. They would like to sign players under the age of 23, but everyone is also aware that these players, in most cases, are not ready to play in the EuroLeague. All the teams I spoke to are against this (the luxury tax, editor’s note). It is completely incomprehensible to me that they voted in favor of it, and now they find themselves in a situation where they are having serious problems forming a team… No one wants to pay the luxury tax, it seems unfair to everyone. The market, which right now is already a bit active, has now completely stopped. Because right now everyone is recalculating, trying to find a formula to find those two highest-paid players. New competitions will also arrive, like the NBA Europe project, where financial fair play is not expected. The stars will escape from the EuroLeague, and the quality of the basketball played will be lower. Time will tell if I am right.”
