Real Madrid announced on Thursday morning that one of its basketball players has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and both the club’s basketball and football teams have been placed under quarantine.
The official statement of Real Madrid follows:
Real Madrid CF communicates that a player from our first basketball team had a positive result after he underwent tests for the COVID-19 coronavirus.
From this moment, it has been recommended that both the first basketball and football teams be placed under quarantine, since both teams share facilities at Ciudad Real Madrid.
At the same time, it has been decided to close down the facilities of our sports training center. It is recommended also that all personnel working at Ciudad Real Madrid remain under quarantine, too.
The games that were scheduled for today and tomorrow, for the basketball team in the EuroLeague and for the football team in LaLiga, will not be played.
EuroLeague Basketball wishes the Real Madrid player a speedy recovery.
