Ergin Ataman: We won’t sign someone just to make a transfer

Ergin Ataman, in his statements ahead of the game between Panathinaikos and Zalgiris for Round 23 of the EuroLeague, emphasized the importance of the match and commented on the situation regarding the acquisition of a center.
Here are his detailed statements:

On the game against Zalgiris:
“We leave aside the Greek league and the derby against Olympiacos. In the EuroLeague, we lost two games last week in Spain, and now we have more home games, starting with the one against Zalgiris. This is a very important match because we lost in Kaunas with a significant point difference. Zalgiris has experienced players, especially in the backcourt, such as Francisco, Walker, and Giedraitis. They are also strong in the frontcourt. Smailagic had a great game in Istanbul against Fenerbahçe.
So, this will be a very tricky game for us. We will have key absences, but as I have already said, we have a very competitive roster capable of handling difficulties. Perhaps we will have a shorter rotation at the 4 and 5 positions, but it will be crucial to be aggressive on defense, as we were two days ago in the derby.”

On Mitoglou’s condition:
“He has been sick for 4-5 days. Yesterday he started with individual training, and today he practiced with the team. He will play tomorrow. Of course, he is not at 100%, but he can give us 10-15 minutes.”

On the difficulty of finding a center in the market:
“If we find a player with quality and experience who can really give us what we need, we will sign him. Otherwise, we will continue with what we have. We won’t sign someone just to make a transfer.”

On Antetokounmpo’s condition:
“Antetokounmpo will be on the roster tomorrow. I don’t know if he will play or get minutes, but he will be fully integrated into the rotation for the game against Promitheas.”

On the fans:
“We are in the final phase of the EuroLeague regular season. We still have seven home games, and we need to win them all. Now more than ever, we need the atmosphere we had against Olympiacos in the derby. We need to approach every game as if it were a derby. We have absences, but I’m sure the fans will be our 6th man and give us a big boost.”
