Ergin Ataman lost his temper after Game 2 of the Greek Finals between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, held in Piraeus. The Turkish coach, ejected after two technical fouls, launched a scathing attack against the crowd and the referees, denouncing racist chants and officiating imbalance.
“This is a circus. Seriously, this is not sport. No one should shout ‘f*** Turkey’ in a basketball arena. That’s racism. They can insult Panathinaikos, not an entire country. That’s why I got the first technical,” he told ERT.
Ataman also blasted the behavior towards club owner Giannakopoulos and his family before the game: “Those who did that are bastards.” Then he turned to the refs: “Olympiacos shot 33 free throws, we only 17. Let’s see what happens at OAKA. The series is far from over.”
