Dubai buys itself a place in the next ABA league. According to a report by the Mozart portal, there are no longer doubts. From the 2024-2025 season and for three years, a team from the emirate will take part in the league that brings together the best teams of the former Yugoslavia.
The ABA league assembly gave its verdict. Buducnost were absent and Partizan abstained. The other nine member clubs voted in favour.
This was thanks to a colossal increase in the amount of funding guaranteed by the Emirates: last week there was talk of 1.5 million dollars a year, a total of 4.5 million dollars for three seasons. According to Mozart’s reconstruction, that offer was rejected by the member clubs.
The Emirates’ new offer would consist of 2.5 million euros per year.
Dubai Basketball, as we all know, will then be able to play in the EuroCup and join the EuroLeague in 2025-2026.
The next ABA League will consist of 16 teams, up from 14. The top 13 teams in the league at the end of the season, Dubai Basketball, the winner of the ABA 2 and the winner of the play-off between the last-placed ABA team and the ABA 2 finalist.
