Dillon Brooks said he doesn’t regret his comments regarding LeBron James during the Memphis Grizzlies’ first-round series loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Brooks called James “old” and “I poke bears” after the Grizzlies won Game 2. I only appreciate people who offer me 40.”
Brooks, who was fined $25,000 by the NBA for not speaking to the media after the Grizzlies’ three road losses in Los Angeles, told reporters Sunday that he doesn’t think his comments motivated James and doesn’t regret uttering them.
“No, that’s who I am,” Brooks told the Memphis Commercial Appeal. “No regrets. I compete. I compete.
After those statements, Brooks was removed 17 seconds into the second half for a flagrant foul 2 after hitting James in the crotch. He hit 31.2% from the floor and 23.8% from 3-point range in the series.
Brooks, 27, is the Grizzlies’ longest-tenured player. The Grizzlies had to deal with “self-created distractions” during the playoffs, according to general manager Zach Kleiman.
