The Denver Broncos have made the release of quarterback Russell Wilson official.
The Broncos will get $85 million in dead money, doubling the previous league record of $40.5 million that the Atlanta Falcons had claimed after trading former MVP Matt Ryan.
Denver still owes Wilson $39 million in salary before his departure, but avoids guaranteeing $37 million in salary with the veteran’s move.
The Broncos acquired Wilson in 2022 from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, quarterback Drew Lock, defensive tackle Shelby Harris and tight end Noah Fant. In August, he signed a five-year, $245 million contract extension with the club.
We’ve notified QB Russell Wilson that he will be released after the league year begins March 13.
