After years at the helm of Crvena Zvezda in the role of club president, Nebojsa Covic has announced his intention to take a step back. In an interview with Meridian Sport, Covic named his successor and also spoke about the EuroLeague season, which was absolutely negative for the Serbian club. These are his words.
About his successor: “I think it is Zeljko Drcelic, the chairman of the board. I think he is a man who has enough energy, youth and skills to effectively deal with all the challenges of basketball”.
On the EuroLeague season and Napier: “The season is bad for us from the EuroLeague point of view for the simple reason that we were unlucky. On the other hand, we made scouting mistakes by relying on an experienced coach and a man who knows basketball very well, Dusko Ivanovic. We brought in Shabazz Napier to be the starting point guard and he wasn’t even the fifth. And when your beach house collapses, you know what happens. Yago dos Santos came in to be the third point guard, and then he became the first. We made scouting mistakes and we had a lot of injuries.
