Chorale Roanne Basketball: official signing of Sekou Doumbouya

French-Guinean forward Sekou Doumbouya has signed with Chorale Roanne Basket until the end of the season

French-Guinean forward Sekou Doumbouya (23, 2.05 m) has signed with Chorale Roanne Basket until the end of the season. After Jalen Jones’ injury, Doumbouya will go to reinforce the team’s interior line and bring with him the qualities that brought him to the NBA at only 18 years old. The Conakry native, who grew up in Fleury-les-Aubrais and trained at Insep, was always an early phenom. He discovered ProB at just 15 with Poitiers, ProA at 17 with Limoges and the big league at 18 with the Detroit Pistons, who drafted him 15th in 2019. He will play 94 games in the NBA with the Michigan franchise, then two more with the Los Angeles Lakers in early 2022 on a two-way contract.

After a final season in the United States in the G League with the Delaware Blue Coats, Sekou Doumbouya returned to Europe last summer, waiting for an opportunity to play again. In Roanne he will have a chance to show that he has lost none of his talent in terms of mobility, touch and explosiveness. He will make his debut with the number 45 this Saturday in a friendly against Saint-Chamond at the Halle André-Vacheresse and will qualify for the trip to Strasbourg on March 2 at 4 p.m. in Betclic Elite.

Doumbouya’s first words after signing with Chorale Roanne: “I am very happy to be in Roanne. I like the atmosphere here with the group and I have felt good chemistry with the coach since I arrived. Above all, I am very happy to be able to play again and help the team.”
