Cavs coach Atkinson: Pacers were better — we’ve got to grow

Kenny Atkinson acknowledged Indiana’s superiority after Cleveland’s Game 5 loss and sees the postseason exit as a lesson for the Cavaliers’ growth

“The Pacers deserved it,” said Kenny Atkinson after the Cavs fell 114-105 in Game 5, ending their playoff run. “They played great. Credit to Rick Carlisle and that team.”

Atkinson admitted that Indiana’s pace and pressure exposed Cleveland’s flaws. “It’s a physical and mental challenge,” he said. “It’s part of our development.” He added that poor shooting and limited ball movement hurt their offense across the series.

While frustrated by the early exit, Atkinson remains hopeful. “We’ve improved, but we’re not there yet,” he said. Looking ahead, he sees the loss as fuel: “You live with that pain every day until you get back here next May or June.”
