In the latest series of the March Madness 365 podcast, Andy Katz was joined by analyst Seth Greenberg and UCLA point guard Tyger Campbell to chat through his top teams of week one: UCLA, Gonzaga and Kansas.
Number 2 seed UCLA’s recent victory over 4th seed Villanova saw the side brush off a direct rival and maintain a 3-0 record. Hoping to go one step further this year after a Final Four run in the previous campaign they will need to keep the duo Johnny Juzang and Jaime Jaquez Jr fit this year.
In similar fashion, Gonzaga despatched 5th ranked Texas in a highly anticipated fixture. No shock here but star performer on the night and the favourite for the Wooden Award, Drew Timme impressed again notching up an incredible career high 37 points against highly ranked rivals Texas. His powerful presence and size dominated the opponents defence all game. Tipped by many as the ‘best player in the college game’ be sure to keep an eye on him this year!
Kansas held their spot in third place according to the Associated Press rankings off the back of dominating their first two games with Ochai Agbaji posting a career best 29 points in one fixture which included two consecutive dunks. He has recently been joined by Guard Remy Martin who recently transferred from Arizona State. Martin has been hotly tipped to bring a new playmaking dimension to the Jayhawks. Having registered 1,754 points over four seasons he’s sure to bring some more firepower to this exciting team.
The season will no doubt feature plenty of highs and lows with many other teams in the running to stake a claim for the championship and cause upsets. Stay tuned and follow the action with us!
