Bertram Derthona announces it has reached an agreement with French centre Ismael Kamagate, born in 2001, who arrives on loan from EA7 Emporio Armani Milano until the end of the season.
CAREER – Born in Paris on January 17, 2001 to a family of Ivorian origins, Kamagate started playing basketball at the age of 12 in a small Paris club. He then moved on to Paris-Levallois and then to Orleans, a club where he made his senior debut.
In 2019, he transferred to Paris Basketball, where he played for the next four seasons. He played his first two years in Pro B, contributing to the championship victory in 2021 with an average of 8.9 points and 7.1 rebounds. In the following year – 2021/22 – he made his Pro A debut, registering important numbers (11.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game) and being named Defender of the Year. In 2022/23 Ismael continued to produce significant numbers (9.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per outing, shooting 75.3% from the field) and played in the French All-Star Game for the second consecutive season. At the same time, in the same year, he made his debut in a European competition, the EuroCup, where he produced 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.5 blocked shots and 17.2 rating per outing, shooting 76.3% from the field (20 games played).
In the summer, the French centre moved to EA7 Emporio Armani Milano, with whom he played in both Serie A and EuroLeague. In 11 games played in the league, Kamagate scored 6.3 points and 2.7 rebounds, shooting 76.3% from the field, while in the EuroLeague he played 9 games.
In the summer of 2022 Kamagate was selected in the NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons and subsequently his rights were traded to Denver, with whom he played in the Summer League in both 2022 and 2023. With the French national team he played in the Under-18 European Championship in 2019 and the 2021 Challenger, while in 2023 he made his debut with the senior national team. Now he arrives at Bertram Derthona to start a new chapter in his career.
