Basketball world mourns the loss of Luciano “Lucky” Capicchioni

He was recognized as the father of the "European Sports Revolution", an innovative period in the 1980s and 1990s when skilled European basketball players joined the NBA.

The basketball world mourns the loss of Luciano “Lucky” Capicchioni, one of the most influential agents between 80s and 90s, at 75.

When Toni Kukoc, Arvdyas Sabonis, Sasha Danilovic, Zan Tabak and Zydrunas Ilgauskas wanted to play in the NBA, they hired Dr. Capicchioni to represent them.

Throughout the years, Dr. Capicchioni managed to achieve many goals in life and sports, starting from his college years.

In 1965, he founded and became President of the first American College Cycling Team at Michigan State University. Returning to Europe from the United States in 1968, he founded and became President of the San Marino Basketball Federation. The following year he also founded the San Marino Baseball Federation, becoming its first president and leading the national team to become finalists in a 1971 European competition.

In 1972, Dr. Capicchioni founded the I.B.C./San Marino All Stars, one of the first international exhibition basketball teams. The All Stars introduced corporate sponsorship to European basketball, enabling them to enter into friendly competitions throughout Europe.

Dr. Capicchioni gained experience in the world’s premier international sporting event: the Olympics. From 1979 through 1984 he was Vice-Chairman of the San Marino Olympic Committee during both the Moscow and Los Angeles Summer Games. For the 1980 Summer Games in Moscow, he was named the Head of Delegation of the San Marino Olympic Committee.

In 1986, Dr. Capicchioni founded Interperformances, Inc., a full-service sports & entertainment agency specialized in the representation of professional athletes the world-over. Interperformances soon became the European leader in the sports marketing and management, and expanded its reach into the USA. Players and coaches have become: NFL Super Bowl Champions, Olympic Gold, Silver and Bronze Medalists, NFL Hall of Famers, European Basketball Champions, NBA All Stars, European Basketball MVPs, NBA Rookies of the Year, European Football (Soccer) Champions, and NBA Champions League Players.

In 2002, Dr. Capicchioni was elected Chairman of Italian Association of Basketball Agents. Five years later; he was elected Honorary Chairman of the Italian Association of Basketball Agents.

Interperformances has established offices and representatives in 14 countries and is recognized as far and away the largest sports agency in Europe. As the Chairman of Interperformances, Dr. Capicchioni currently oversees the careers of 400 professional athletes and coaches

Dr. Capicchioni is a native of San Marino who was raised in the United States. He received his B.A. from Michigan State and his doctorate in international relations from the University of Bologna in Italy and is certified as a player-agent by the National Basketball Players Association.

Dr. Capicchioni maintains residences in Miami and in San Marino, where he heads the Interperformances World Headquarters.
