FC Barcelona and Nikola Mirotic have reached an agreement to extend the power forward’s contract until 30 June 2025. The Montenegrin was previously contracted until 2022, with an option to stay until 2023, but he will now be staying until at least 34 years of age.
Mirotic arrived at the club in 2019 and in his first season at the Palau Blaugrana he was named Liga Endesa MVP on the back of his 19.5 points and 5.7 rebounds a game.
The 2020/21 season, with Sarunas Jasikevicius as head coach, has seen Mirotic’s form to be as strong as ever. He has had 23 points and 8.5 rebounds in Barça’s wins versus Hereda San Pablo Burgos and at Unicaja Malaga.
Mirotic says: “I’m very happy and very grateful to the club for this new opportunity. I’m happy to have extended my contract. 2025 sounds great. So many years wearing this shirt and hopefully achieving further success. I look forward to repaying that trust.”
“The club has trusted in me ever since I arrived. Everyone knows it is never easy to come back from the US, but the club has given me everything. They wanted to bring me here, the fans have been good to me, the energy is great and I have often said how surprised I have seen to be so well received.”
“I’ve been here for a year and a half. I look forward to big things happening, and for the moment when the fans come back to the Palau, so they can enjoy good basketball and so we can bring them new joy. We all have the same goal and that’s to win trophies.”
“There are a lot of dreams to fulfil. We can’t afford to put up any barriers. We all have our own responsibilities. I know I have lots, and I’ll repay the club’s confidence in me. I’m hungry to win things.”
