Australia center Landale to miss FIBA World Cup

Houston Rockets big man got injured in his left ankle in Australia's friendly match against South Sudan and will miss the tournament

Basketball Australia confirms that Jock Landale underwent a MRI scan yesterday following his left ankle injury in the game vs South Sudan. Results have confirmed he sustained a lateral ankle ligament injury, and cleared him of any other significant concerns.

Jock has been ruled out of the Boomers World Cup campaign, and will now return to Houston to commence his rehabilitation ahead of the NBA season.

Coach Brian Goorjian says Landale’s injury is a huge disappointment for Landale and the Boomers.

“The team is really hurting for Jock. He’s a big part of the culture in this team and everybody loves him,” Goorjian said.

“He was really excited about this, so it’s a real kick in the guts, but as far as our belief – that hasn’t waned.”

The 12-man Boomers team has arrived in Japan and will play a warm-up game against France on Sunday in Tokyo (coverage on 9Network channels) and Georgia (August 22, Okinawa) before their first FIBA World Cup game against Finland in Okinawa on August 25.

National Federations are required to confirm their 12-player teams to FIBA by August 23.
