Ataman: "Don’t look for the reasons behind your guilt elsewhere; look instead at your own actions that have no place in sport"

Panathinaikos head coach Ergin Ataman issued a strong response to the post-game 3 statement from Olympiacos GM, who had criticized both him and the atmosphere at OAKA following Game 3 of the Greek league finals.

In a message posted on social media, Ataman condemned the racist chants directed at his country during the previous game at SEF, and denounced what he called an unprecedented and unfair disciplinary process launched against him based solely on claims by Olympiacos’ lawyers. The Turkish coach stressed that he will never back down when facing disrespect toward his nation or his club.

Finally, Ataman took particular offense at the phrase “we made it out of the jungle alive,” used in the Olympiacos statement: “No one can refer to OAKA—one of the most modern arenas in Europe—as a jungle, nor call our 20,000 fans ‘animals.’ I will not warn you again on this matter,” he stated.
