In an interview with Sport Club, coach Ergin Ataman talked about Virtus Bologna and the upcoming final against Olimpia Milano. These are the words of the current coach of Panathinaikos, the team with which he became European champion.
Coach Ataman on Virtus Bologna: “For Virtus Bologna it is important to see what will happen with the sponsor. In Italian teams there are a lot of great sponsors, but then they leave and the teams get into confusion and difficulties. The Euroleague is a very hard commitment economically, you need a big sponsor. In these years Virtus is giving a great show in the EuroLeague, everyone is happy to come and play in Bologna, but we have to see what will happen with the sponsor. If there is no Mr. Armani in Milan, how will Olimpia manage the budget? If Segafredo withdraws, the same question would apply to Virtus, how would they manage the situation?
On the LBA final: “In my opinion, Olimpia will win. Virtus, with all these corporate problems, could be distracted: so many players are looking around, so many agents are offering us Virtus players, but now it has to finish the championship. Will I support Banchi or Messina? They are both great friends. I have a lot of respect for them, but Messina was my idol.
