Andrea Trinchieri, coach of Zalgiris Kaunas, spoke to the Italian newspaper Messaggero Veneto. Here are four of his statements.
ON ZALGIRIS
I expect one fundamental thing: to build a team that plays together. Last year we were not good enough. We want to try to be competitive, which means winning the championship and doing our best in the Euroleague, being in the top ten.
ON ITALY
From Italy, I miss my friends and the championship. I miss it but not in a negative way, I have no nostalgia and I am very happy here’.
ON EUROLEAGUE
It’s a monstrous competition. Every year there are stronger teams, we only compete with ourselves. I don’t want to look at other programmes, I’ll look at my own: I’ll try to propose something new, something creative.
ON THE CONFIRMATION OF THE OLIMPIA-VIRTUS DUOPOLY
It is likely, but I also see Venezia doing very well, Trapani and Sassari very well, ditto Tortona. They have all strengthened at the bottom and on paper it will be one of the most competitive championships ever.
