Fenerbahçe Beko have announced the signing of Dwight Powell. The Canadian big man, born in 1991, can play both power forward and center and joins the Turkish club after most recently playing for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA. His contract runs through the end of the season.
Born on July 20, 1991, in Toronto, Powell began his college career at Stanford University. After averaging 8.1 points and 5.2 rebounds in his freshman season, he was named the Pac-12 Most Improved Player in 2012-13, posting averages of 14.9 points and 8.4 rebounds. In his final college season, he averaged 14.0 points and 6.9 rebounds, earning a place on the All-Pac-12 First Team.
Selected 45th overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2014 NBA Draft, Powell subsequently had his draft rights traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. After playing in the Summer League with Cleveland, he joined the Boston Celtics in September and also appeared in the NBA G League with the Maine Red Claws.
In December 2015, he moved from Boston to Dallas in the trade that also involved Rajon Rondo. Powell went on to reach the NBA Finals with the Mavericks in the 2023-24 season. In 2019, he set his career high with 26 points against the Washington Wizards. During the 2021-22 campaign, he appeared in all 82 regular-season games, becoming one of just five NBA players to do so that season.
Fenerbahçe have welcomed Powell to the club and wished him success in the yellow-and-navy jersey.
