Anthony Edwards opened the season with 45 points and 10 rebounds in Minnesota’s win over Miami. He became only the third player in NBA history to score at least 40 points in a season opener more than once, joining Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan.
Edwards finished 16-of-29 from the field and 9-of-17 from three in just over 33 minutes, making more three-pointers by himself than the entire Heat team.
“Fire. That’s fire,” Edwards said when told about the historic mark. He scored 41 points in last season’s opener against Portland; Chamberlain had four 40-point openers, while Jordan had three.
