- €3.4 billion to be distributed among the participating teams over the next 10 years.
- Euroleague Basketball targets €648 million in annual commercial revenues by Year 10.
- The combined projected value of the League and its clubs is set to reach over €13 billion over the next 10 years.
Following the meeting of the Euroleague Commercial Assets (ECA) Shareholder Clubs held on October 6 in Lake Como, Euroleague Basketball today unveiled the key economic pillars of its 10-year business plan approved by all 13 shareholder clubs. The plan sets out a long-term growth strategy focused on increasing the value of the League and its clubs, expanding the competition through two franchise expansion windows, and strengthening clubs’ financial sustainability.
The plan aims to significantly increase the League’s commercial revenues and economic distributions to participating clubs, while creating new opportunities for investment and expansion. It builds on the growth achieved over the previous decade and establishes a framework to further strengthen the EuroLeague’s position within the European and global basketball landscape.
Over the full 10-year period, the League projects total distributions of €3.4 billion to participating teams over the 10-year period, comprising €2.2 billion from revenues and €1.2 billion from franchise fees.
Commercial growth and increased distributions to clubs
Under the 10-year business plan, Euroleague Basketball targets €648 million in annual commercial revenues by Year 10. This ambition builds on the League’s track record, having achieved 5-fold commercial revenue growth over the previous 10-year period.
Economic distributions to clubs are projected to reach €2.2 billion over the 10 year period reinforcing the League’s commitment to sharing the value generated by the competition with its participating clubs.
Expansion opportunities and new investment
Expansion represents another key pillar of the 10-year strategy. Euroleague Basketball currently has 15 binding offers on the table, with a combined value of €1.2 billion, reflecting the interest in participating in the competition’s future development.
The business plan forecasts €1.2 billion in franchise fees through two potential expansion windows, scheduled for 2027 and 2031. These fees would be additional to the commercial distributions generated for participating clubs, creating further opportunities to increase the economic resources available across the League.
Franchise transformation and long-term value creation
Based on current estimated valuations of €1.8 billion for the licensed clubs collectively and €1.4 billion for the League, the plan forecasts substantial long-term growth over the next decade.
The transition to a franchise-based model is expected to deliver an immediate increase in the value of both the clubs and the League from the 2026-27 season, with an anticipated 25% uplift in value.
By the end of the 10-year time horizon, the collective value of the current licensed clubs is projected to reach €5.4 billion, representing a threefold increase, while the value of the League is forecast to reach €7.98 billion, equivalent to 5.7 times its current estimated value, over next 10 years.
The franchise transformation is designed to provide a long-term framework for investment, stability and commercial growth, while enabling clubs to benefit from the increasing value of the overall competition.
Financial sustainability at the heart of the strategy
The long-term sustainability of clubs remains a central objective of the plan. Euroleague Basketball will continue to focus on strengthening clubs’ financial foundations, supporting the development of sustainable business models across the competition.
While currently approximately 40% of licensed clubs are considered financially sustainable, Euroleague Basketball projects that all licensed clubs will achieve financial sustainability by the end of the first phase of its 10-year business plan.
“A growing number of our licensed clubs have achieved a sustainable financial operation in recent years, with 40% currently being in that position. All clubs see full sustainability as an ultimate priority, and the 10-year business plan puts that at the very center.” Stated Xavi Puyada, Euroleague Basketball Chief Financial Officer “The value of the EuroLeague and of its clubs is growing very rapidly, and that will only accelerate further as we execute the business plan and the clubs continue with their own progress. Clubs will keep ownership on a valuable asset without requiring any additional risks or investments.”
Euroleague Basketball also plans to further strengthen its Financial Fair Play regulations, in line with the conclusions reached at the Lake Como meeting by the 13 shareholders, to support clubs in their progress towards long-term financial sustainability, while continuing to invest in strategic growth areas, including technology and innovation. At the forefront of this transformation is Euroleague Basketball+, the organization’s initiative to establish the digital home of European basketball. In parallel, venue modernization and development will remain a key priority, supported by the newly created VenueCO, which is designed to provide participating clubs and other stakeholders with access to financing and expertise to build, upgrade and maximize the use of their venues.
Alongside these measures, clubs have continued to develop their revenue-generating capabilities. Average game-day revenues have doubled over the past three years, while commercial revenues have grown by 50% over the last 3 seasons.
The 10-year business plan brings these priorities together within a long-term framework designed to accelerate commercial growth, increase the value of the League and its clubs, and ensure that the economic benefits of the competition contribute to a stronger and more sustainable European basketball ecosystem.
