The Knicks still have a path to extend Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart while staying below the second apron in 2027-28.
According to Bobby Marks, there are contract structures that would allow New York to retain both players without crossing the threshold.
“There’s still a pathway with Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart to stay under the second apron for next season,” Bobby Marks said on ESPN. “Both players would sign on a deal to extend their contracts and be part of the Knicks for the foreseeable future.” Marks added that both players would be willing to consider team-friendly structures to help preserve the core.
The situation would become more complicated in later years, especially with Jalen Brunson potentially eligible for a maximum extension that could raise his salary from $43 million to $64 million. Miles McBride is also eligible for an extension.
