Mike Breen apologized after LeBron James denied a story claiming he had called out Joel Embiid for being late to practice.
The longtime broadcaster said his intention was to highlight LeBron’s leadership, not to portray Embiid negatively.
“I’m so disappointed how the story was interpreted,” Breen told ESPN. During Sixers-Knicks, he said he had been told Embiid came onto the floor a couple of minutes late and that LeBron “let him hear it.” James later responded on Instagram: “He ain’t been late so stop the lies.”
Breen then backed away from the story: “If LeBron says it never happened then I believe him and apologize for putting it out there.” Nick Nurse also defended Embiid, saying: “He’s been excellent. He’s in great shape, he’s been on the practice floor, he’s worked very hard.”
