EuroLeague clubs have rejected the NBA’s current terms for a potential joint competition, but negotiations remain open. According to BasketNews, if no agreement is reached and the NBA moves forward alone, NBA Europe’s launch could be delayed from 2027 to 2028.
As Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews reports, EuroLeague shareholders are expected to return to the negotiating table in the coming weeks with a counteroffer. The NBA’s terms are said to have improved from the early stages of talks, but major differences remain, particularly on the financial side.
Clubs were reportedly unconvinced by both the compensation offered in exchange for NBA majority control and the long-term financial outlook of the project. Meanwhile, work on NBA Europe is continuing independently, with the first major franchise cities potentially set to be announced in the coming weeks.
