Jalen Duren spoke for the first time after signing his five-year, $200 million deal with the Detroit Pistons. The center wanted to make clear that, despite a long and difficult negotiation, he always wanted to remain in Detroit.
“Detroit has become a home for me, this is where I live full-time,” Duren said. “The city has embraced me as well as I’ve embraced the city. This process took way longer than any of us really wanted.”
The 22-year-old added: “I don’t think this should be looked at as something negative. Something great has happened. I’m locked in with a team and a core whose potential is through the roof.” On last season’s ending, he said: “It was humbling. I learned to turn frustration and anger into energy to better my craft.”
