NBA expansion to 32 teams could send the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Eastern Conference. According to The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski, the expansion committee is expected to consider Minnesota, Memphis and New Orleans.

The Wolves’ strongest argument centers on divisional geography. Joining Milwaukee, Chicago and either Indiana or Detroit in a new Central Division would reduce travel, late road games and inconvenient start times for local fans.

A move east would weaken Minnesota’s growing rivalries with Denver and Oklahoma City while reducing games against the Lakers and Warriors. Adam Silver wants clarity on expansion by the end of 2026, but no realignment decision has been made.
