It has been 13 years since the release of the last Grand Theft Auto game, and anticipation for GTA 6 has continued to build. The new installment in the hugely popular franchise is officially set to release on November 19, 2026, and Steven Adams has already predicted an unexpected side effect for professional sports.
The Houston Rockets big man joked with the media about the potential impact the video game could have on NBA players’ performances.
“The performance of the league will plummet”
Adams pointed out that many NBA players are known gamers and suggested that November could have an unusual impact across professional sports once GTA 6 is released.
“I will say, you guys should anticipate November. The performance of the league, league-wide. GTA is dropping. So have a look at NFL, a look at all the leagues, and watch them plummet, mate.”
The comment was clearly made in jest, but Adams continued by predicting that the effect could temporarily impact performances.
“It should bounce back in December”
The Rockets center believes the slump would only last for a month, with players eventually returning to normal once they have finished the game.
“Just for the month of November, performances are gonna go down. They should come back up, though. Most of the boys will get it done, hopefully they finish the game… But it should bounce back in December.”
With GTA 6 scheduled to arrive on November 19, 2026, the NBA will have to wait and see whether Adams’ tongue-in-cheek prediction actually comes true.
