The former MVP discovered the Timberwolves’ offer had been turned down while reading a newspaper on vacation in Jamaica

Kevin Garnett revealed on the Knuckleheads podcast that he fired his agent after learning the representative had rejected a $122 million offer from the Minnesota Timberwolves without consulting him.

“I’m in Jamaica, I open USA Today and the first thing says, ‘Garnett denies $122 million,’” Garnett recalled. “I never got to deny anything. The agent did. I told him, ‘Don’t be speaking for me.’ I didn’t like that, so I fired him.”

Garnett eventually signed a record $126 million contract. “I probably would’ve taken the $122 million,” he admitted, while acknowledging that the negotiations taught him how the business of professional basketball worked.
