Head coach Dimitris Itoudis said after the game: “Congratulations on the win – that’s a good thing, but we had quite a few problems, especially on the defensive end, but offensively as well. We won the game thanks to an excellent start and a 21–10 first quarter, but we lost each of the next three quarters – and that’s something that should concern us.
“We won the rebounding battle by 10, which shows a lot of commitment. Every team, and especially a EuroCup team like Roma, has extra motivation when playing against us and wants to prove that it belongs at the EuroLeague level, and we didn’t match their physicality. Overall, it was good for us to face a team like this.
“We used the rotation we had planned, even though Vasilije Micic was out due to illness. Tomorrow, the rotation will be different. Overall, this was a game that helped us understand where we are, what our weaknesses are and what we do well.”
Tomas Satoransky added: “I think we did a lot of good things, especially in the first half. Obviously, there were moments when they outmatched us in terms of motivation, but I think that’s a good lesson for us ahead of the season. When you’re not playing well, you have to understand how to stay in the game.
“Of course, I’m happy with the win. We’ll try to improve the things we need to improve ahead of the final, but so far we’re happy.”
Asked about settling into the team and finishing the game with eight assists, Satoransky said: “I think I’m still learning the team. I started for the first time because Vasilije Micic isn’t here, so for me it’s still a process of getting to know everyone and understanding how I can help the team be at its best. That’s exactly what preseason games are for.”
