The forward chose Minnesota over the Lakers and Trail Blazers despite receiving a lower financial offer

Jonathan Kuminga signed a two-year, $12.5 million contract with the Timberwolves that includes a player option. The Lakers reportedly offered roughly twice as much annually over a longer term.

Tim Connelly and Alonzo Gee’s visit to Miami, Anthony Edwards’ near-daily calls and Alex Rodriguez’s personal outreach proved decisive. “Them wanting me to be here, it felt real,” Kuminga said. “Making a decision was very easy.”

The 23-year-old is particularly eager to contribute defensively alongside Rudy Gobert, Jaden McDaniels and Edwards. “If we have a great defense, the offense will come in time. It’s just trying to win.”
