Dr. J prefers to evaluate retired players and will wait until LeBron completes his career

Julius Erving explained why he has not yet included LeBron James on his all-time teams. The decision is not a rejection of James’ résumé, as Dr. J prefers to evaluate only players who have completed their careers.

“I usually talk about retired players being part of all-time teams, not current players,” Erving told Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson’s #WORDSWITHSCOOP. “LeBron is not retired yet, so it’s hard to put him in his position until his career is over.”

Erving also called James’ arrival in Philadelphia exciting but added a warning: “That team can set records and win championships, but they have to do it on the court, not with lip service.”
