Jonathan Kuminga joined the Minnesota Timberwolves with basketball opportunity and future flexibility taking priority over immediate earnings. He signed a two-year deal worth up to $12.4 million despite reportedly having a three-year, $75 million offer available from Golden State.
“He had to get to a spot where the basketball was set,” agent Aaron Turner explained. “If it’s a good basketball fit, the money follows.” Kuminga’s lack of control after being traded to Atlanta last season also influenced the decision to avoid another long-term commitment.
Minnesota’s deal includes a player option after the 2026-27 season, potentially allowing Kuminga to enter free agency in 2027. Several teams, including Sacramento and Chicago, could have significant cap space by then: “The game board is set very, very well for JK.”
