AS Monaco running out of options: Roca Team could drop to NM1 after professional exclusion

The French Federation has rejected the club’s request to reopen the case, leaving the Principality side with only one option

AS Monaco is increasingly likely to have to restart from Nationale 1. Following the CNOSF’s unfavorable opinion, the FFBB rejected the club’s request to urgently reopen the case regarding its participation in the professional leagues.

Roca Team, coming off a historic quadruple last season, has been excluded from both Betclic ÉLITE and ÉLITE 2. At this point, the club’s only option would be to appeal to the administrative court, but according to Nice Matin, Monaco’s management is not considering taking that route.

The most likely scenario is therefore a restart in NM1, the third tier of French basketball. According to BeBasket, AS Monaco’s association, which has 455 registered members, is considering taking over the project, with the aim of building a new team featuring some of the club’s young prospects and the two foreign players permitted by the FFBB.

It would be a stunning setback for Roca Team, just 15 months after coming within touching distance of the European title against Fenerbahçe.
