The ranking was compiled by HoopsHype writer Frank Urbina, who has Dirk Nowitzki at No. 1, followed by Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic. Pau Gasol, Tony Parker and Luka Doncic complete the top six, while Drazen Petrovic is ninth, Arvydas Sabonis 11th and Toni Kukoc 14th.
NBA production clearly carries significant weight in the ranking, although several players built almost their entire legacy in European and FIBA basketball. Dejan Bodiroga, ranked 33rd, never played in the NBA, while Nikos Galis, 45th, never appeared in an NBA game either.
Others had only brief NBA experiences. Predrag Danilovic is ranked 43rd, Juan Carlos Navarro 37th and Vassilis Spanoulis 50th. HoopsHype notes that Spanoulis logged just 272 total minutes during his lone season with Houston before becoming one of the defining players in EuroLeague history.
The group outside the Top 50 is notable as well. Dimitris Diamantidis, Sarunas Jasikevicius, Dino Meneghin, Sergei Belov, Theodoros Papaloukas, Milos Teodosic, Kresimir Cosic and Aleksandar Djordjevic are all listed only among the players receiving votes.
