Lamar Stevens is one of Partizan’s new additions. After experiencing EuroLeague basketball for the first time last season with Paris Basketball, the American forward is preparing for his second season in Europe, this time wearing the black-and-white jersey.
Speaking to the club’s television channel, Stevens discussed his first impressions of Belgrade, his adaptation to a new culture and the challenge of representing a club with such a rich history.
“I’m learning a lot, and the city is beautiful”
Stevens has enjoyed his first few days with the team.
“It’s been a few good days. I’m learning a lot and we’re really pushing each other in practice. I’m getting a lot of love from the fans, and the city is beautiful.”
The American admitted that he did not know much about Serbia or Partizan before arriving, although he was already aware of the atmosphere inside the Belgrade Arena.
“I didn’t know much. I just knew that the energy in the Arena was the best in Europe.”
Now, he is discovering the history and tradition of his new club.
“I’m learning a lot every day. I’m learning about the club, its history and how much success Partizan has had in the past. It’s a process for me, but it’s incredible to integrate with the team and the history this club has. I’m excited to represent Partizan.”
“We have a team that can play very hard”
Stevens is optimistic about the group assembled by Partizan.
“I think we have a team that can play very hard, with pride, and that is willing to learn so we can become better together.”
For Stevens, collective commitment will be crucial throughout the season.
“This year will be a collective effort. We’re going to need everyone, and we all have to be on the same page. This is a group of good guys who are hungry to win.”
“My first year in Europe was a year of learning”
The American also reflected on his first season in European basketball with Paris.
“The first year was a year of learning and adapting to the court and things off the court. That was necessary for my development, and now I feel more comfortable playing and living in Europe.”
Stevens believes he is entering his second European season with a different mindset.
“I’m excited for my second season because I’m coming in with a different mentality and the feeling that I have something to prove. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
“It’s time to make my mark in Europe”
Stevens also has two NBA playoff appearances on his résumé, an experience he considers valuable.
“That’s an advantage for me, just playing in those environments. But whatever I did in America stays there. Now it’s time for me to make my mark in Europe. I’m ready for the next step.”
“I’m ready for whatever role is needed”
The Partizan newcomer also explained what he can bring to the team.
“I’m ready for whatever role is needed. I’m a player who is going to play hard, give everything on defense, dunk, shoot threes… I have versatility in my game and I can guard anybody.”
His goal is to make an impact whenever he steps onto the court.
“I’m a player who comes onto the court and impacts what happens on it.”
“I’m taking it day by day”
Partizan’s ambitions are naturally high, but Stevens prefers to focus on the process rather than looking too far ahead.
“Obviously, everyone is going to say the goal is to win the championship. You never enter a season with a different mindset.”
“For me, my mentality is to take it day by day and get to success that way. I never look too far ahead. I like to be present and be where my feet are,” Stevens concluded.
