AS Monaco budget drops from €12 million to €6-7 million after CNOSF hearing

From €12.5 million to €6-7 million

The situation surrounding AS Monaco Basketball changed significantly within just a few hours on Tuesday.

Before the CNOSF hearing, club lawyer Xavier Le Cerf-Galle had told Nice-Matin that Monaco was aiming to build a budget of around €12.5 million for the 2026-27 season.

Following two and a half hours of conciliation talks, however, Nice-Matin reported a potential budget of between €6 million and €7 million, taking into account both already secured revenues and income that could be generated during the season.

The sharp revision highlights the uncertainty surrounding the French champions.

Monaco has €5 million in identified resources

Monaco says it currently has around €5 million in identified resources, including €3.27 million already received or documented.

Those resources include sponsorship income and transfer compensation. Additional revenue could come during the season from ticketing and season-ticket sales, commercial partnerships and game-related income.

Several long-term partners would also reportedly be willing to continue supporting the club if Monaco is ultimately allowed to compete in the Betclic ELITE.

Meanwhile, the roster planned at the beginning of the summer has gradually been dismantled. Mathis Dossou-Yovo has joined ASVEL, while the situations of players such as Yakuba Ouattara and Joël Ayayi remain unclear.

Monaco claims to have cleared its debt

Another key point presented by Monaco during the hearing was its financial situation.

According to Nice-Matin, the club now claims to be “effectively free of debt” following several debt waivers by its shareholders and historical creditors.

After the hearing, Le Cerf-Galle defended the club’s new financial position, stating that Monaco’s financial situation had been cleaned up and that it already had €5 million in resources, including approximately €3.3 million documented at the beginning of the season.

The lawyer therefore believes Monaco can move forward with a significantly reduced payroll and a very different financial structure compared with previous seasons.
