Pat Riley welcomed Klay Thompson by emphasizing his value to the Miami Heat’s renewed championship pursuit. “Klay is one of the most iconic players to ever suit up in the NBA,” the franchise president said after the signing.
“A four-time, battle-tested world champion who will fit perfectly into his role as an all-around player at both ends of the court,” Riley added in the Heat’s announcement. “We all talk about his shooting skill, but there is so much more he brings to the game.”
Thompson signed a two-year, $13 million contract and will wear No. 11. According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, his $5.6 million first-year salary leaves Miami enough room to potentially add two more standard contracts.
