Peyton Watson did not return during the Denver Nuggets’ playoff run in part to protect his contractual future. The forward was dealing with a soft-tissue hamstring injury.
“You have to be very careful in your return with those injuries,” Rich Paul explained on the Game Over podcast. “Players want to play, and you have to protect them from themselves in that moment, especially when they are up for a contract.”
Watson initially suffered the injury in early February and returned for approximately one week before being shut down again in April. Denver later sent him to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a sign-and-trade for first- and second-round picks.
