Maxima Roma have officially announced the signing of Vernon Carey Jr. The 2001-born American center arrives in Rome after gaining experience in the NBA, G League and European basketball.
Selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 32nd overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Carey also played for the Washington Wizards, Greensboro Swarm, Capital City Go-Go and Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He previously averaged 17.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks at Duke.
As Maxima Roma noted in their official announcement, Carey joined Pınar Karşıyaka in 2023 and averaged 17.8 points and 7.7 rebounds in the 2023-24 Basketball Champions League. In October 2023, he became the youngest monthly MVP in the competition’s history.
