Victor Wembanyama has been named captain of the French national team for the fourth window of the 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers. At just 22 years old, the San Antonio Spurs center receives a major honor upon returning to the national team after a two-year absence.
Wembanyama takes over the captaincy from Rudy Gobert and will lead France through the upcoming international games. Les Bleus will first face Serbia twice in friendly games before playing Slovenia and Sweden in their official World Cup qualifying games.
The appointment further underlines Wembanyama’s growing leadership role within the French national team.
